Marker-assisted Selection of Bivoltine Silkworm Genetic Resources for Thermotolerance

نویسندگان

چکیده

The aim of the study is identification bivoltine breeds showing thermotolerance to evaluate for regional abiotic stress conditions achieve successful cocoon production.
Study Design: Lepidopteran insect, Bombyx mori silkworm more prone crop losses due hot climatic during summer seasons. In order produce cocoons consistently throughout year without affecting productivity season, high temperature tolerant are indispensable. vast B.mori (L.) germplasm available needs be screened using reliable molecular markers select efficient productive with tolerance.
Marker assisted selection (MAS) has been widely used in desired traits breeding programs. It believed that based on trait linked DNA marker would better option than phenotypic which laborious and time consuming.
Place Duration Study: taken up 3 years collaboration Seribiotech Research Laboratory, Kodathi
Methodology: present carried out screen forty selected B. resources exhibiting higher rate survival SSR (LFL329; LFL1123; S0809; S0813) so as identify thermotolerant breeds.
Results: Based PCR product resolved 2% agarose gel presence bands corresponding thermosusceptible observed, 10 accessions showed 87-100% were viz. BBI-0086 (KPG-A), BBE-0184 (SMGS-2), BBI-0301 (YS-7) BBI-0339 (DD-2) spinning dumbbell cocoons- BBI-0044 (NB4D2), BBI-0334 (APS-4), BBI-0336 (APS-8), BBI-0338 (DD-1), BBI-0343 (NK3) BBI-0358 (CSR26) further validation through field trials hotspots Tropical - High low humidity at RSRS, Jammu REC Chitradurga; Sub tropical RSRS Temperate CSRTI, Berhampore.
Conclusion: elucidate impact associated over economic performances accessions. findings provide a suitable platform future improvement program.

Fitness components of bivoltine breed CSR2 after introgression of multivoltine thermotolerance character of silkworm Bombyx mori L

Bivoltine rearing in tropical regions is highly unpredictable due to fluctuating temperature and humidity conditions. It is therefore extremely imperative to develop a stable bivoltine cocoon crop under adverse environment of the tropices. Improvement of the existing bivoltine lines through introgression of true multivoltine tolerant factors by conventional backcross breeding strategy leading t...

On prediction of genetic values in marker-assisted selection.

We suggest a new approximation for the prediction of genetic values in marker-assisted selection. The new approximation is compared to the standard approach. It is shown that the new approach will often provide substantially better prediction of genetic values; furthermore the new approximation avoids some of the known statistical problems of the standard approach. The advantages of the new app...

SNP Marker Assisted Selection for Identification of Fusarium Resistant Melon Plants

Melon is an important crop cultivated in moderate climate regions of the world. One of the most important diseases of this plant is vascular wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis (Fom). Infection of farm by this pathogen can result in huge damage around the world. Development of resistant varieties is the most effective method for disease control. Four races of 0, 1, 2 and 1,2 have be...

Screening Strains of the Mulberry Silkworm, Bombyx mori, for Thermotolerance

A tropical climate prevails in most of the sericultural areas in India, where temperature increases during the summer lead to adverse effects on temperate bivoltine silkworm rearing and cause crop losses. Screening for thermotolerance in the silkworm, Bombyxmori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) is an essential prerequisite for the development of thermotolerant breeds/hybrids. In the current study, ...

Selection theory for marker-assisted backcrossing.

Marker-assisted backcrossing is routinely applied in breeding programs for gene introgression. While selection theory is the most important tool for the design of breeding programs for improvement of quantitative characters, no general selection theory is available for marker-assisted backcrossing. In this treatise, we develop a theory for marker-assisted selection for the proportion of the gen...
